EDUCATION
Every day students and faculty members at colleges and universities across the US and around the world rely on their smart phones and handhelds for accessing information and services to improve their productivity and convenience. These students and faculty – power ‘texters’ for years now - now have become power mobile-web users and depend on their handhelds for accessing email, news, entertainment, sports, and all types of information to improve, enhance, and speed their everyday lives. On (and off) campus, students and staff are picking up their devices and expecting to be able to view, check daily calendars and events, register for classes, check assignments, check grades, reserve books, find directory information, find and reserve a book in the library, and much more. They are looking to connect with their school 24/7 when it is most convenient to them during their busy lives.
Usablenet Mobile leverages a college’s web site and services - the full operating functionality including access to portals, student calendars, library services, contact databases – and extends the functionality to the handhelds and mobile phones of students.
The result is that student and staff can simply pick up their device, go to their college's web site via handheld, and seamlessly access the college's web site and services.
Usablenet Mobile requires no university technical or web development resources. No re-coding of the web site. More important, Usablenet Mobile requires nothing of the student and staff: The users goes to the web address they are used to going to (e.g. uiuc.edu) and is automatically re-directed to the specialized mobile view. The student does not 'sign up' for Usablenet Mobile and doesn't have to specify what device they are using. Usablenet Mobile automatically detects the device type and re-directs the user to a site that's specialized for their device.
Usablenet Mobile allows a college to offer seamless mobile web access to all functionality including (but not limited to):
