A History of Innovation
Much has been written about how companies go from “good” to “great”. For many, part of their success lies in staying focused and building a strong culture to drive the company forward. That is also true for Usablenet. We have reached an exciting point in the evolution of our industry, and as a company we are poised for the next chapter of amazing growth. We have just reached a significant milestone in the evolution of our technology: patent approval! Whoa!! Usablenet’s innovation is now recognized and protected by the recently issued U.S. Patent for “methods of optimizing a web content proxy server and devices thereof”. The patent covers our pioneering technology platform’s ability to transform server cookies into mobile enabled cookies, resulting in enhanced scalability, security and privacy for clients on the platform. The news of the patent approval, combined the examples we see every day of our amazing platform in action for clients, trigger the opportunity to tell the story of where it all started. Our technology tale begins at The University of Udine, in Italy, where our inception as a company may be traced back to research and studies conducted under the mantra of Universal Design, Usability, and Web Accessibility for All. Many of the lead players in our company hail from this place, and it’s from them that the name Usablenet was born. Our mobile journey began at the turn of the century, when, playing with the Nokia Communicator 9000, our chairman discovered that the Usablenet Platform we had developed to assist users with visual impairments could be used to open up sites for mobile access, which was previously limited by similar browsing restrictions. And so we entered the world of mobile transformation, creating new user experiences for simple feature phones, then smartphones, and then tablets and kiosks. Our history of innovation continues. In 2010, while attending the Apple Developers Conference, our team had a eureka moment while standing in a local laundromat (yes, a story for another day). Suddenly it became clear how to free the features and functions locked into a client’s web site, so that we and our clients’ teams would be able to use them anywhere. In that moment our Agile Web Services capability was born, which makes it possible for our platform to generate web services that can be used to deliver successful multi-channel projects. Today, Usablenet stands at the cusp of the next era in mobile. One in which mobile, multichannel, and the web as a whole are being transformed by technologies such as web services and HTML5, and the growing imperative and opportunity of user-centered design. Our ability to lead in the new world is ensured by the capabilities of our U-Experience platform (agile web services, HTML 5 U-FX framework) and deep UX expertise. We are ready to support our clients with a platform that scales with them, one that in those early years started by serving merely thousands of pages a month, and which has now graduated to serving nearly 100 million pages in a single day, as we saw this Thanksgiving. From our early roots in web accessibility and usability, we have been building our technology team to deliver long-term success. We have a core technology team that invents, another team that innovates and another that develops for and delivers client satisfaction. Together, these teams form a cohesive unit that generates unparalleled experiences for customers and clients across mobile and multichannel, one that helps build, dream up, and innovate to design the experiences of tomorrow. Our history stems from a deep commitment to Universal Design and Usability. Building on our strong technology platform, great people, vast experience and end-to-end traditions, the future at Usablenet will be exciting! Leave a Reply |
